A new type of new media that doesn't currently exist that I think would be extremely interesting is virtual retail stores/fitting rooms. Although shopping online can be very convenient, it also can be a hassle. It is a hassle ordering something online to have to wait up to a week to receive it, to try it on and then realize it does not fit. So maybe a virtual fitting room to see how the actual size of the clothing fits would be a great idea as well. This way you don't necessarily have to show up in store if you don't have time but you wont order the wrong size either!

Wiki So Far

Some of the research I have done for wiki so far is learning why wikis are important and how they can benefit not only myself but people who will have access to it. In an article titled “ More on How to Build your own Wikipedia” gives a lot of great tips on how to be effective through a wiki.

What I plan to work towards is participating in adding content for ‘entrepreneurship’ I would like to discuss how entrepreneurship can be misunderstood and what are the benefits of becoming an entrepreneur.

File sharing is being able to transfer files from a computer to the Internet.

P2P file sharing is “peer to peer sharing” which means that you are able to share content such as music, movies and shows that gives another person easier access.

Some examples of P2P file sharing are Kazaa and using technology like “ BitTorrent” according to the article “ Digital Pirates Winning Battles with Studios” that help you download and have access to shows, movies and music illegally. 

Blog: Privacy

The issues of confidentiality and privacy are related to new media in a major way. As the world is becoming extremely dependent on technology and new media overall, there is less and less privacy. We live in an era where everyone wants post online their personal lives and interests. Companies use this to their advantage and work with one another to gain information that will help them improve their connection with their consumers. Although this can be beneficial for companies, this is an invasion of privacy. Anyone can have access to your information, passwords, pictures, content if you aren’t careful with protecting your information. Especially when saving your banking information on websites where you shop, anyone can easily hack the website and gain access of this information. In an article titled “ Target works on security-heavy credit cards, after breach” they discuss the current security breach that Target had. A breach which lead to theft of names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, debit/credit cards.

If I were hired by Baruch to use new media to improve the college there are many suggestions that I would make. For one, there will be an increase in social media activity social networking platforms that will allow Baruch to have a competitive advantage and promote the school for incoming students. Especially building a connection and being able to engage with the staff and students on a personal level. With school clubs, I would ensure that each club has a social media page which would make inclusion easier. Having classes which show new media etiquette would be essential to create a culture where students are aware of how to utilize new media with a positivity and to encourage learning. New media can also be beneficial in terms of class content and a tool for professors where they can provide a platform that will be relatable and engaging to students.

Creativity and New Media

Apple has created a tool where you can create a “Memoji” , it’s basically your own character and it can be personalized. You can only create one through an iPhone X or any phone that came out after that or an iPad Pro. Your Memoji can be used in your messages and on FaceTime! (It actually moves along with you when you move) The really cool part about Memoji’s is you are not limited, you can create as many characters as you like, which means there’s no limit to your creativity !
How to create your Memoji:

1. Open Messages and tap  to start a new message. Or go to an existing conversation.
2. Tap , then swipe right and tap New Memoji .
3. Customize the features of your memoji — like skintone, hairstyle, eyes, and more.
4. Tap Done.

HW Creativity

In the article “ Disney tolerates a rap parody of its critters. But why?”  We can see a perfect example of how New Media fosters creativity. This is an article that was written in 2007, where people were using media and technology to their advantage to create funny content of Disney and Nickelodeon characters dancing to Soulja Boys hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy). Not only is it funny content for entertainment purposes but it allowed people to use their imagination and expose their creativity utilizing a song that was popular during this time period. (It’s also a great way to promote the song!)
